HOW'S IT TASTE, MOTHER****ER? HUH???

I can't believe the caption in this photo doesn't mention Chappelle...

My bro's a lucky guy, politically...

I try not to envy much, because I'm generally a low-maintenance bloke who in most aspects is happy with my life, but I've cast a green glare towards my brother Nevsky these days, because he's had a far more entertaining senatorial race than I have.

Up here, it's Sen. Bob Menendez, the one-year incumbent, versus Tom Kean, Jr., who's claim to fame is solely being the son of the man who was affectionately known as "Governor Goofy". Oh, those halcyon days when the worst thing you could mock a politician for was a mild speech impediment. And although it's beginning to pick up here (for example, a computer used by the Kean campaign was also used to post fake messages on Bluejersey.net, a Democratic blog), we just can't compete right now with the three-ring asylum of one which is George Allen.

And if you were waiting on more George Allen fun, well, the latest issue of conservative magazine The Weekly Standard smacks down Allen for his incompetent campaign to date.

Yeah, Jersey will probably get nasty, but in terms of pure watching enjoyment, I'll be on Youtube looking for Allen's latest meltdown...

Hey, why is this Madonna video 40 seconds long and pixel-blurred?

Saw an article about how Walmart is trying to get into the movie-download business, following on the "success" of their online music store. Here's wishing them a spectacular, money-spewing failure.

Maybe it's because I got my computer during the Clinton administration, but I'm not sold on movie downloads, just because with Netflix and other services DVD rentals seem to be a lot cheaper and more convenient. For what it's worth, I checked out the new iTunes on a computer that could handle the download and it crashed repeatedly. And what's with this iPod phone? Music players and phones should be separated! And all these new-fangled video games? My Atari 2600 had 128 bytes of RAM, by cracky, and if'n t'annoyed George Plympton, well, that's good enough for me.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got to fix my Geritol/Ensure breakfast smoothie...

This is going to be mighty uncomfortable...

Those of you who follow stupid shit (like me) are no doubt aware that Survivor is splitting its starting tribes by ethnicity this season.

While flipping, I saw an interview snippet on Entertainment Tonight about the new season, and they had this sound bite from a contestant.

"I'm very proud of my heritage."

This was one of the white guys.

What do you think, Han?

Destroying our security, one wallet at a time.

Meager output aside, I think I've accurately depicted two key personality traits: one, I'm a huge nerd, and two, I have nothing but contempt for credit card companies and predatory lenders who target the poor and desperate like a raccoon searching for fresh offal.

(And yes, I'm aware that the previous statement conflicts with my love of gambling. I guess I'm a hypocrite in that sense, but I'm in good company.)

At any rate, the recent USA Today report about the increasing number of army personnel having debt problems due to loan centers is disturbing not from just an economic standpoint, from a military standpoint. Soldiers in debt can lose their security clearance (logic is they are subject to bribes, which makes sense), and therefore can't be deployed.

Full Pentagon report is here.

See how your senator voted with the failed Durbin amendment to the bankruptcy bill, which would've put a military exception in, here.

Just another example of how it's expensive to be poor...
